Grading Policy:
Your grade will be based on three in-class midterm exams (15% each), Laboratory overall (30%), and a final exam (25%).
In Class Midterms: 10/5, 11/9, 12/7
Comprehensive Final Exam: 12/21 11AM-1:30 PM
Laboratory Policy:
Each lab period, we will complete one of ten assigned labs, described in the lab manuals. Each lab meeting, you must submit a brief summary of the lab (1-2 pages) which outlines the physical ideas you are exploring, the sequence of measurements themselves, and anticipated results. The lab TA must approve and sign this report before you can begin working on the lab. Please record all your data in your lab notebook, as well as your analysis and compare them with your expectatations. The full lab report must be submitted to Professor Aronson’s mailbox in the Physics office by 4:30 PM on the Monday following the lab meeting. The lab will be graded on a scale of 0-10, and your grade will not depend on the extent of agreement between your results and the expected results, but on your understanding and completeness.
You must complete at least 9 of the 10 labs scheduled this semester. If you miss a lab, there are 4 scheduled days for making up the lab (see syllabus). At the end of the semester, any missing lab will be given a score of zero. If you miss more than one lab, you will fail the class, regardless of your performance in other aspects of the class.
