Qualifying and Comprehensive Exams

The solutions to the recent exams can be accessed by username: exam, password: solutions from the Stony Brook University Campus. More exams, and full solutions to most of them, are available in the Physics Office for review.

The Placement Exams are offered in two days, and cover classical mechanics (CM), relativity, electricity, magnetism and optics (EM), quantum mechanics (QM), statistical mechanics and thermodinamics (SM). The Comprehensive Exam has more advanced experimental and breadth problems. The Placment exam was called "Qualifying Exam" before September, 2004. All three days of the exam were called "Comprehensive Exam" before January, 2003.
